'Tell me, what was Judy Garland really like?'

Hey, I liked this Leprechaun movie! The humor suddenly worked in this part, mainly because there is almost no trace of truly intended horror, something that could well be the director's fault. Warwick Davis comes up with one one-liner after another, and it is certainly an animated one. It became twice as fun at one point with two Leprechaunsfiring rhymes at each other, a nice touch in the story that kept it all fun. The Leprechaun certainly has some nice tricks up his sleeve that don't rely on the 'gore' but really on the originality of the murders.

All the characters in the film except the leads are assholes, so it was wonderful to see them dealt with. The cast was generally quite fun, and it was surprising to see Caroline Williams show up as a sleazy casino worker. Her fate in particular was very nicely conceived and she acted nicely over the top. John Gatins also does a nice job, especially his accent later in the film, but I have to say that I was blown away by the beautiful Lee Armstrong. She has to go through a lot of different emotions and she does them all wonderfully sympathetically. The outfit she wears throughout the film was certainly not bad, because she has a beautiful body. Occasionally she overacted a little too much, but all in all I thought she was one of the nicer appearances I've seen in films lately.

So; a nice cast, a ton of good and not-so-good but still corny jokes, and a complete lack of pretensions make this an enjoyable film, and the first decent Leprechaun film.

The Leprechaun walks through the busy streets of Las Vegas and bumps into a casino, without anyone looking at him. Could it be a satirical metaphor for the greedy money grabbers who populate Las Vegas? Well, I dare to doubt that, judging by the mediocre story and - now 'familiar' - weak characterizations and ditto performances. The Leprechaun [Warwick Davis, still in top form] is again looking for that one missing coin from his collection. This time it turns out that whoever holds the coin can make all his wishes come true. But when others find out, the Leprechaun is no longer the only one who wants to get the coin at all costs. The bottom had not yet been reached, but this foolish venture is coming pretty close. Certainly not as funny as it thinks it is.

Warwick Davis can take his pot of coins to Las Vegas to cause death and destruction again. You would think he would be noticed a little earlier, but in the world that director Brian Trenchard-Smith creates, that is unthinkable. The progression follows relatively neatly the lines drawn in the previous parts. This means that you can count on a lot of eccentric characters, fairly creative murders and an extremely childish progression. In no way does this film offer any technical or substantive progress and after a while it even gets boring, but as simplistic entertainment it still works.
