Well.

Actually, I always watch franchises chronologically. It means something that I only saw this after the fifth part and that it really didn't interest me that much.

Because actually every part happens the same and you can easily set up every part with the same expectation as with an episode of Jackass: what weird shit they have come up with this time.

The distinguishing feature of this part are the constantly persistent visions of the main character, which (just like the kills) get a somewhat nasty CG interpretation. In addition, a somewhat pompous soundtrack, which actually works best for me (especially in combination with the X-rays) because the film seems to take itself a little less seriously. Also the failed suicide is a bit of humor that I don't remember from other parts.

The last half hour is bad, with a vision that gets out of hand by smuggling in a rewrite, some rushed moments and an easy ending.

Quite entertaining, but still one of the worst in the series. It's irritating how the spreading of possible dangers has now replaced the real tension. 2*

In itself a funny fact that James Wong and David R. Ellis alternate for the direction of the Final Destination films. And prior to this movie, that gave me hope too, since last time Ellis managed to make a better movie than Wong; so the chance that he would surpass the mediocre Final Destination 3 was high. But phew, that turned out not to be the case. In fact, the quality of The Final Destination is regularly well below part 3. Qualitatively speaking - in terms of screenplay, acting and acting - the film is more reminiscent of a Final Destination porn spoof, but without the porn. What happened to Ellis in six years to descend from a Final Destination 2 to this?

At least CGI. Because where he made one of the most spectacular pile-ups in part 2, here we see an accident with effects that you now see every amateur on YouTube making. And unfortunately it's just not over the top enough to be 'nice bad', I'm afraid people really thought this looked good at the time. And no, even for that time it looked terrible. Then this shortest Final Destination starts to go through all the elements pretty quickly; others die and the charismatic protagonist is going to find out who is next through hideous visions. All the characters are either bastards or sympathetic friends of the main character and we see the first category dying in exaggerated ways. But there is not much creativity. I believe that now in every cause of death there is a bottle with a liquid falling over - that's about the only set-up one could come up with here. The pay-off is also always the same; ugly CGI and something flies at the camera. After all, the film is in 3D for a reason.

Sorry, this. 2 stars.

Final Destination (2000) was a top film in its genre. With each part it gets a little less, but they remain entertaining films. But this fourth installment is clearly the shortest in the series. Uninteresting and undeveloped main characters, very ugly CGI kills and an overly obvious attempt to apply 3D effects. Fortunately, the fifth gets a little better.
