"Whatever you do… Don't go into the attic"
Bathed in sweat, composer John Russel wakes up from a nightmare. There it is again, that enigmatic sound? Since the terrible death of his family, he lives in this lonely house to find peace again. But he is not granted it, again and again he thinks he sees the corpse of a little boy. John begins to doubt his sanity, but while searching the house, he finds a secret passage to an old nursery, containing a wheelchair and a music box. Convinced that something horrible must have happened here, he tries to find out the truth through séances.

The film is a real old-fashioned horror film with a simple but thoughtful story and contains all the classic elements of the haunted house genre. Very touchingly told. With a mystery and a family secret. Exciting.
George C. Scott is the haunted resident seeking peace of mind. Stoic, authoritarian and very masculine with a secret hint of meekness. After all, his character is a music teacher and composer of classical music. Then you can. Nice role. There are also other characters. They are essential to the story, but less elaborated. Their presence is of a different order. They are therefore not present in practically every scene like George.
He does not find the peace and reflection that George is looking for after a traumatic experience in his new home. He is kept very busy. By strange noises that disturb his sleep. By opening and closing doors. And through more of that work. The film uses the classic elements and does it quite well.
The atmosphere is cold and dark and has something melancholic about it. Good camera work helps to visualize that atmosphere. The way in which the stairwell is always portrayed as the pivot of the labyrinthine house is beautiful. For example, a ball that slowly bounces down the stairs, instead of a simple ball that rolls down the stairs, is a threatening and creepy phenomenon and a fantastic piece of art. pooh.
Good old horror movie.
