I have read the first six books in the Ghost Hunters series. And what a great book. With well-built tension, creepy, atmospheric and well-developed characters that come to life at the right moments.

So I was happy to finally see the movie Seventh son. What happened to everything that makes the books so good? Nothing can be found in the film. The characters don't make sense, don't make sense and very different from how they are in the books. They don't come off at all. There is too much hopping from scene to scene to follow the storyline properly. Doesn't seem to be well worked out. What a waste. I can only hope that one day there will be a film adaptation that keeps close to the story and that can do justice to the atmosphere, tension, fantasy of the books.

Nice fairytale.

A bit tame and tame, and not really averse to cliches, and the script jumps a bit too easily from time to time. But, it's nicely filmed as it should be for the genre, and that makes up for a lot, and there is also quite a wide cast involved. Jeff Bridges exaggerates a bit, especially in the beginning, while Moore remains a bit hypothermic and Vikander actually gets too little space.

Just saw it for the second time, and it went a lot better than the first time. No other explanation than that I was apparently more tolerant of this type of film today than last time. And well, it is certainly not a masterpiece, but it is pleasant viewing.

Fantasy as a genre is clearly not understood here, given the stupid commentary I read here and there. I have not read the book, but I can understand that you may find the film adaptation disappointing. I often have that experience too. If you expect quality as LoTR, you're just kidding yourself. We will not see such a large production for the time being. Especially when it comes to sword n sorcery.

I was curious about the role of Jeff Bridges. Not someone I would expect in a role like Seventh Sin, but he does bring it nice and badass. Experienced warriors always do well when they appear a bit grim. I just hoped that Kit Harrington would have a bigger role. I would have allowed him to trade with Ben Barnes who is not very good with his role.

Other than Bridges, I really enjoyed the beautiful CGI and the cities, ruins and monsters that emerge from it. For a hundred-minute film, exactly what you would expect happens: an epic quest. It feels like a fun Dungeons & Dragons adventure and it actually is. There is hardly any room for personal development (no one who understands that), but the characters do end up in cool situations. Bridges also has some cool one-liners. This movie deserves a lot more credits.
