Debut film that was undoubtedly made with a not too large budget and that left me bored to death.

The fact is fine: man suffers from amnesia and by carrying out assignments he can develop a new identity. But then the effect. The assignments hang together like loose sand (of course I may not have discovered the cement) and in no way influence the emotionless actions of the man in the sequel. So why all this fuss?

In an interview with the director in NRC high-flown profundities, I read after seeing the film and usually I am sensitive to this, but here it is mainly a well-thought-out and profound concept (references to selfies, likes, Apple and the apple of Eve) that has been worked out soullessly. A somewhat superficial puzzle that does not challenge to be solved.

Unfortunately.

The world is in the grip of a pandemic that is causing people to lose their memories. Aris [Aris Servetalis] falls prey to this during a bus trip and seeks help from a recovery program in which two counselors [Anna Kalaitzidou, Argyris Bakirtzis] help him get his life back on track. Aris' loves apples, but when a fruit seller casually mentions that apples are good for memory, that changes. Has Aris really lost his memory or is he feigning amnesia to make a fresh start in life? Servetalis stars in an almost silent role that asks pressing questions about the value of life, the importance of memory and the way we connect and maintain contact with each other. Penetrating and often very funny.

A typical art house film with long shots and in this case one with little dialogue. Of course there is not much to say if you are often confused or if you do not remember everything very well. Explanations are not given in the film as to why someone suffers from aphasia. Fortunately, understanding and treatment are great. It seems like a derivative of corona or something, some kind of inexplicable pandemic that has descended on humanity.

A film about interpersonal contacts, your place in society and resourcing, the latter whether or not out of necessity. All solid and it ripples merrily on without any specific direction. I had expected a bit more panache or message/morality, some kind of mindf*ck or powerful premise.
