After her husband's divorce, Roberta (Meryl Streep) leaves for one of America's roughest neighborhoods: Harlem in New York. There she wants to do something with her great passion: the violin. She offers her services at a school in the neighbourhood. At first everyone is skeptical of her plans, but Roberta teaches violin with such passion that her students are making spectacular progress.

Good film in which a divorced mother takes a job as a music teacher at a school in a deprived area. Although it is a true story, it is not original at all. The film is also entertaining and a bit sentimental. Meryl Streep plays a beautiful role. Furthermore, this is a striking film in the oeuvre of horror director Wes Craven.

True story but a little too sentimental and a little too much feel-good and especially towards the end very predictable, which costs the film half a star for me. Other than that, a good movie. 3.5 stars.
