Monsters: Dark Continent plot

"Fear has evolved"

Seven years after the events of 'Monsters' and the virus has spread worldwide, humans are no longer at the top of the food chain. Different communities are fighting for survival. American troops are sent abroad to protect interests from the monsters. But the war is far from being won. Soldier Noah is sent on a mission to track down an American soldier deep inside the infected area and rescue him from the area. But when his unit and transport are destroyed, he is left alone with a young, inexperienced cadet.

Nice video.

I didn't expect much given the very low score. In retrospect I can place it, but it is not due to the quality of the film itself. The main problem is that the film does not really offer what the audience is waiting for.

The film is not exactly a logical sequel to the first, both in terms of story and atmosphere. The monsters mainly stay in the background, the story takes place in a world in which the monsters have become an everyday occurrence. What you don't get are a lot of soldiers who have to look for a queen or something, more like a Middle Eastern war film with some aliens in the background every now and then.

Visually beautifully shot, many moments where Green takes the time to add something visually. The acting was certainly sufficient and although the playing time was quite long, I was not bored. Reminded me of District 9 at the best moments, Green deserves a little kudos for a sequel like this.

3.5*

Disappointing sequel, with the first half in particular very annoying. In any case, this film is at least half an hour too long, but the beginning was simply unbearable. Once the cliché characters have arrived in the Middle East, Green tries to recreate the same atmosphere as in the original, and it does get a little better, but it is too little too late. A lot of shouting, not much wool.

What a mess. Crappy sequel to a very good original (4*). This is more of a war film in the Middle East with all the clichés (from films like Hurt Locker, American Sniper, Jarhead, etc.) and I wasn't looking forward to that. None of the characters are interesting, the camera work is quite choppy and the "monsters" are just part of the scenery. They should be seen as a new animal species with which humans must learn to live. Fell asleep several times. Quickly forgotten.
