Good war film with hardly any war violence. A curious move is that the character

van Aznavour as a prisoner of war may be taken into a German family as an assistant.

Ultimately, the result is a friendly (Human) mode between the Frenchman and the

German family. The German soldiers are hardly portrayed as brutes in the film, which

we are used to differently. A fairly unusual war film, therefore, without striking

grimness.

The film eventually splits into two storylines. So that of the character of

Aznavour and that of the escaped journalist played by Georges Riviere with whom Aznavour

soon meets, and when Riviere soon has an escape plan in mind.

And this also shares with Aznavour, who mainly for moral reasons does not listen. And

In the end, we mainly see Riviere at the head of a newspaper in Paris. One on his own

to say the least, highly flammable person, and who is a lot less sympathetic than that of

Aznavour. Which, by the way, is slightly adjusted towards the end of the film, although it is possible

it is difficult to forgive him that one bastard delivered trick.

Found Aznavour in particular to be strong in this generally quite subdued war film.
