Lakposhtha Parvaz Mikonand plot

Poop Satellite moves from town to town to repair the electronics that connect the remote villages to the outside world. He is a respected community leader, even though he is only thirteen years old. He is a father figure to the local children, most of whom are orphans maimed by landmines. Ironically, the same kids spend their days removing unexploded ordnance from nearby pastures to sell back to the US military for meager pay. Just as Kak has persuaded the village chiefs to buy a satellite dish, a strong-willed, armless boy arrives in the village and tests Kak's authority. Kak's situation becomes even more complicated when he falls in love with the boy's sister, who is unable to cope with the horrors she has witnessed.

Penetrating war story, in which we meet a boastful boy who is in love with a beautiful girl. He is a young businessman in the land mine trade; she is a timid refugee with trauma. As simple as their story is told, so big is the theme at the same time. The film paints an incredibly tragic picture of what it's like to live in a war zone. The images of smashed tanks and the desolate landscape on the Iraqi-Turkish border give the film an eerily lonely atmosphere.

The acting is for the most part in the hands of children. Although they do not play the stars of heaven as fully-fledged actors, they still know how to be credible because of their authentic appearance. These are also the children who have lived in this misery.

This film makes the suffering in Iraq countless times more transparent than in the endless stream of generic news reports. A film that everyone should have seen, if only to set a human frame against current events.

Disconcerting film about an often forgotten aspect of the war: the (orphaned) children. The Kurdish director Bahman Ghobadi confronts the viewer with the raw image of the circumstances in which these children have to find their way: a muddy tent camp in the middle of army scrap and surrounded by land mines. Completely left to their own devices, everything depends on their perseverance and improvisation skills.

At the same time, Ghobadi delivers a hell of a performance through the beautiful acting that he manages to get out of the children. In the lead, Avaz Latif, who, in the role of the girl Agrin, leaves an unforgettable impression with her sad, somewhat surprised and at the same time empty look.

A heartbreaking film, almost a documentary, that once again exposes the madness of the war in a dramatic way.

An Iranian post-war film in which the orphans from a refugee camp take center stage. Unsurprisingly, the suffering of these children was often distressing. In the midst of land mines left behind they try to survive, partly thanks to the land mines, because these still provide some food.

Fortunately things are a bit more light-hearted with the very energetic Satellite, a boy who owes his nickname to the lines of communication that connect him between the different villages.

The little girl might be the big star against his will and thanks. However, her suffering and trauma is heartbreaking. She comes from the war scarred. Great acting from her and everyone else. Ghobadi managed this all very well.
