Textbook example of Italian neorealism. The harrowing poverty and the moving relationship between father and son are overwhelming. Social criticism and injustice towards the working class are present throughout this film, gray and drab. A very emotional ending closes this masterpiece.

Rewatched the movie a few days ago. Long time since I've seen him, by

many highly regarded and which I believe also enjoys classic status.

Now upgraded with a full point. With many memorable moments. And in my opinion,

as more with the Sica, with socially critical elements.

The father sometimes seems so engrossed in finding the thief of his bicycle that he

occasionally his infant son, always in his wake, seems to have forgotten. The one in a scene, behind

his back, almost being hit by two cars, and also falling into a puddle on the

road seems to have completely eluded him. The kid also gets almost wheezy now and then in the

quest, only to suddenly act as a loving father again. Are you

tired? Have a seat. Followed by dinner, one of those memorable extraordinary

touching scenes. Both roles of the father and the son also played excellently, and

the relationship between the two is also clearly warm. The little boy sometimes looks too

literally respects his father, and is also docile and obedient. with extremely

beautiful images especially when it starts to rain. With almost annoying in the long run

for the father there are a lot of cyclists in the picture, who gradually also with his desperate drive

becomes more and more passionate.

A single stolen bicycle as the subject of the entire film, with the bicycle almost

vital importance. A wry premise, which is executed superbly. But only

humor is not lacking either. For example, the grumbling mother of the son as an alleged thief

when his room is searched.

In addition to the English film title The Bicycle Thief, there is also the alternative plural form. And

which is more than understandable given the end of the film.

How different perception can be...

After reading Fisico's review (with all due respect) I took a comment that another fellow MM user - the Grunt - posted here years ago from the mothballs

(the grunt wrote:) I personally couldn't think of any other movie where I felt more empathetic with the main character than with Antonio Ricci in Ladri di biciclette. I found his moral dilemmas heartbreaking.

I totally agree with that, and I can't put it into words better.

I've sometimes asked myself which of the many thousands of films from my DVD/Blu-ray collection I would absolutely want to keep if I only had one left. (which hopefully won't happen)

I didn't have to think long about that: "Ladri di Biciclette" so.
