Attacks are being carried out at a rapid pace on lawyers and judges who were involved in the case at the time. And one by one they are claimed by Clyde, who is still locked in his cell…

LAC has a promising premise that exposes the injustice of the law. It is indeed vengeful to see as a small citizen how grudgingly a legal-political system adheres to procedural rules and civil rights in order to give rabble the chance of a safe pass. Of course this is presented rather one-sidedly, but it is a plot that really appealed to me.

The film also reminded me of the Belgian film 'The Verdict', which follows a similar course, albeit less twisted than what we saw here. Dead man walking (Sean Penn) also flashed through my mind at the execution of the death penalty.

The strongest element of the film is the created paradox that points out the main character (for himself (!)) how rotten the legal system is when murderers can be released after paying a deposit. Values and norms are worthless and every lawyer hides behind the safe rules of the law.

Then the pudding completely collapses and the film relegates itself to a laughably unrealistic thriller spectacle in which unbelievable plots take the upper hand. Few quiet moments in the film either, as if all the action had to be crammed into those last 60 minutes. Too bad, because the level is dropping visibly. Serious disappointment in the second part. The acting performances also took the same direction.

I understand that some are disappointed in the second half of the film, but you can also turn it around. And so I do. I didn't really like the second half, it was a bit unrealistic and heavy. And way too much violence. The first half I found really impressive, the gist of the story intriguing, so I don't regret watching at all. Recommended!!!!!

Years after this movie came out, I re-watched it again. In my memory, the part in court was worked out more deeply. But that wasn't the case.

The film starts very strong and the bizarre legal system of America is neatly put on the rack. But the film soon collapses and becomes too repetitive with various events.

Pretty predictable, you see actions coming and a deeper elaboration of emotion, but also of the legal system, is not expressed further.

Nice for a rainy Sunday, mind at 0 and a bit of watching revenge.

2.5*
