Found this afternoon for less than a euro in the thrift store. I think it's a very good movie! I had no trouble getting into the story. It grabbed me from the first moment. I especially found the chase very exciting. I was literally glued to the screen. Interesting main characters, even if Bruno isn't the most likeable. I find the acting of the entire cast strong and believable. I am very glad I found this one! 4*

The Dardenne brothers are always fishing in the same net with their themes of social deprivation. Also with l'Enfant, she heads in that direction again with a young couple who have just had a baby and who have to look from day to day to make ends meet. Petty crime is Bruno's main occupation, but his problems are wider when his creditors pressure him to pay off his debts.

In the lead role Jeremie Renier, who we have already seen at work on the conscientious Igor in La promesse. Not a sympathetic character, but an interesting figure to find out his motives why he sells his child. Olivier Gourmet also chirps, but has a very limited role.

Again a sombre film and a camera handling that is literally close to the skin. It makes the emotions and actions of the characters come directly to you. Less is more, typical of the Dardennes.

This is an exciting social drama. Excellent acting, with some old acquaintances from Dardenne films, including lead role Jérémie Renier. As is often the case in the Dardenne films, we get an open ending, but I think it's appropriate here. The camera style is also in house style - with a lot of movement - but not to the extent that it makes you seasick. For me this is a topper of the brothers, was completely carried away.
