Beautiful film that splits into two different but equally strong parts.

In the first part, the warfare comes, very realistic and atmospheric, especially when the short, hypernervous and chaotic telephone calls, fast-paced and in code language, just as much as the combat action bring the tension to the top.

The second part takes place in the courtroom and excels due to the witty, very concrete pleas of the prosecution and defense.

The end is a very beautiful, meaningful scene, in which the main character briefly isolates himself from his wife and children and the sound of the alarm or emergency services can be heard very far in the distance. It is then clear that Claus, one way or another, will forever have a terrible moral scar...

Saw this film on the BBC this weekend with English subtitles, but that was no problem. What a great Danish top film this was! Definitely worth 4 to 5 stars and understand the Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Film, rightly so... You are well swept up in the Danish crew of soldiers and the camera also follows closely on patrol, which immediately gives you the feeling that you are with the boys and always thinks: 'what is going to happen now, who is attacking us?'. In short, exciting.

Tip: you should not actually read in advance (eg on the DVD box) what the film is about, because that story already reveals too much about the course of the film, that's a shame .... The only thing is more than enough: a Danish division in Afganistan is sufficient.... Also the connection with the home front and the concerns there are understandable and acted very humanely. The ending is top and beautiful, with a strong role of a 'Bitch-like role of a kind of female prosecutor, who wants to prove her right, also makes it even more lifelike and dramatic...you're going to hate her a bit, aren't you? ' with her sucking interrogation...

Krigen is a strong Danish war drama. The film actually consists of two parts. A part in Afghanistan where the Taliban rules and the home part where the commander of the operation is on trial for killing civilians. It's a pity that the summary of the film already tells the story. Regardless of the outcome of the court, it takes some of the tension away.

Afghanistan was quite exciting - paranoia also with the idea that any civilian can be your enemy. You saw a group of Danish soldiers that had to secure the area, but had to fight against an invisible enemy. Boring work, but also ungrateful at times. No superheroes and you saw that when emotions threatened to get the upper hand when a buddy got hurt. In that respect a thorough and realistic representation of an operation in enemy territory. Beautiful in imitation of the masterful Black Hawk Down (2001)

The home front is also discussed and the small banal things that affect every household with children come to the fore. It's tough as a father, but also as a mother who is on her own and always has to wait anxiously to see if her husband is still alive. Nice penetrating movie poster too!

The court case is interesting with witty arguments from the public prosecutor. On the other hand, the saying "the best helmsmen are ashore" sometimes crossed my mind. Krigen encapsulates everything why I love Danish - and by extension Scandinavian - films. Beautiful war drama!
