Extremely fascinating film about guilt in the Nazzi practices during WWII and the question of how far that guilt carries and how it is dealt with afterwards by those involved and descendants.

Title is very well chosen because the story shows the thorniness of the issue and how thin the line between being and not being involved is apparent.

Neat construction and fortunately the film does not drown in too many details or subordinate storylines.

It is a factual film, in which cinematic delights are not to be expected, but there are some compelling testimonies and a special scene near the site of the former camp.

Actors perform their roles well. Gert Voss stands out the most, while Alexander Fehling seems rather meek than of the penetrating type.

Historical fact-based cross between a historical drama and a thriller.

In 1959, young German lawyer Johann Radmann (Alexander Fehling) discovers that certain government services and institutions are conspiring to cover up Nazi crimes and works frantically to uncover the evidence.

Television actor Giulio Ricciarelli makes a great debut as a director and screenwriter with this film. He does not use sensational imagery to effectively convey the sensational story and era of the 1950s. The love line intertwined by the well-crafted, but slightly too weighty drama is a bit larmoyant, and Johann Radmann is very naive at the start of his obsessive quest.

All in all a nice German Drama / Thriller film, about an important, still relevant history.

The subject is interesting, of course, but what a shame that it has become such a standard investigative film. The naive boy who is slowly sucked into a world full of injustice. Such a scene with a room full of files that the main character doesn't know where to start and then just starts with the first pile of paper, is such a cliché. And the movie is full of it, it's like Hollywood. The whole development of the main character's discoveries, his tirelessness, the personal breakdown about 30 minutes towards the end, only to pick himself up again at the end is almost literally in every feel-good film. It feels thoughtful. The cinematography, the music, the actors. Everything is too smooth and made. Food for old berries who like to do some cultural activities in the art house every now and then. Cinematic value as good as zero.
