Debut director Spencer Susser, who wrote the script, produced it, edited it and created the beautiful title sequence, combines the most diverse genres, from black comedy and social indictment to bereavement drama and raised fingers against drug overdose. In other words, a mess.

This story revolves around Hesher (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), who is a loner in his late twenties with a melancholy disposition, who has long black hair that hangs in wisps down his face and his body is covered with vulgar tattoos. He also hates everything and everyone and lives in a van. One day, he meets TJ (Devin Brochu), a thirteen-year-old boy, who, along with his depressed (due to the death of his wife after a serious car accident) father Paul (Rainn Wilson) joins his caring but confused grandmother (Piper Laurie) lives. TJ becomes fascinated by Hesher, but doesn't know yet that this shaggy lad will certainly not have a pleasant influence on his life.

The story offers more possibilities than this Drama film shows and the script rattles from all sides. The cast includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Natalie Portman (as mousy cashier Nicole, who is also TJ's dream wife) and Piper Laurie (as the grandmother who is the only one who immediately accepts Hesher as he is and who even has a surprisingly touching friendship with him). builds up) does play well and Joseph Gordon-Levitt based his character on Cliff Burton, the bassist of "Metallica" (the logo of "Hesher" on the film cover also closely resembles the logo of "Metallica"), who was killed in a 1986 tour bus accident. In addition, you can also hear music from Metallica (from the time with Cliff Burton).

The Drama movie "Hesher" is just a little weird, but actually quite nice.

Strange film, slightly absurd if you ask me. humorous how Hesher gives himself access to the house and how soon he just fits in and watches tv together with dad and laughs with grandma and later throws everything in the pool and even rides a bike in it[/spoiler ] In itself you are quite raw in the film the father is lying rudderless and useless on the couch and the boy is doing breakneck tricks to stay by the car in which I presume his mother died in, that the family is doing something bad trying to process is obvious. and in itself the film is interesting up to that point but the further the film goes and Hesher interferes with everything like setting the car on fire following TJ and helping Portman I do lose the intention of the film, what is the intention, where exactly is this going? The film eventually lost me more and more and what the message actually is of the clash between the grieving family that is falling further and further apart and the anarchic and at times annoying Hesher completely eludes me at a certain point. But then it comes together in a bizarre way during Grandma's funeral and Hesher's speech, that you can mourn what you have lost but also look at what you still have. The final final walk with Grandma is touching and just as bizarre as other things Hesher does. The rudderless story and presence of Hesher as far as I am concerned comes together and turns out to be useful

Wonderful music by the way and great roles by Portman, what a nice thing that is, especially when she just got out of that pool , Wilson and especially Levitt. The latter has developed over the past ten years as a versatile actor.

Beginning of the movie 3.
halfway through 2.
End of the film and final message 3.5.

A father and his young son mourn the loss of their wife and mother. Then a violent psychopath named Hesher forces himself upon them and settles into their house. What follows is a strange and incoherent film full of violence and other vague nonsense. It really is all ridiculous and totally unbelievable. The only thing I can think of afterwards is that that Hesher is kind of symbolic for the grief process of the father and son. But all that is done in a tasteless way. Not really my movie.
