In the year 1453, the siege of Constantinople by the Ottoman armies of Sultan Fatih Mehmet II led to the eventual fall of the Byzantine Empire. Simultaneously with this event, a new era begins: the rise of the Ottoman Empire as a superpower. The sultan himself was only 20 when he wrote world history. The conquest of the last Byzantine stronghold was planned in great detail by the ruler: he gathered a mighty army, stocked an extensive arsenal of weapons and waited for the right moment to strike.
