Evelyn Couch (Kathy Bates), an overweight, middle-aged woman is in a slump. Her husband Ed ignores her, and even her bedridden aunt throws things at her head. But everything changes with an unexpected friendship with Ninny Threadgoode. Ninny tells the story of 2 completely different women who lived in the small town of Whistle Stop, Alabama 50 years ago; the insufferable daredevil Idgie and the endearing Ruth. Together they run the Whistle Stop café where there is room for friendship and even a murder of its time. The events of the past inspire Evelyn to change her life...

Beautiful film, as too few are made. Great role by Jessica Tandy, who was 82 years old not only in the movie but also in reality when the movie was shot. Mary Stuart Masterson, Mary-Louise Parker and Kathy Baker also play impressive roles. In addition, take the beautiful atmospheric images from the depression years in the poverty-stricken South of America and you have a great film that you will be happy to see again a few times. Without a doubt one of the best movies of the 90's.

Beautiful film in which a housewife befriends an elderly woman who knows how to inspire her with old stories. An entertaining story (actually there are 2 stories), which is brought with a lot of nostalgia and is set in Alabama. Partly due to the beautiful decoration, the film manages to capture the southern atmosphere well. Also a very enjoyable cast.

This wasn't a bad movie yet. It tells the story of the events in a small village. I thought it was fascinating, because of the many flashbacks, so that there was a swing in it.
The cast also captivated me. Kathy again plays a beautiful role, but the rest also played convincingly.
I thought it was worth seeing, even though it lasts 130min.
