Greta Gerwig is fantastic in the title role (full name: Frances Halliday). Frances is a 27-year-old dancer who is simply trying to survive in New York. The four episodes in the film coincide with moving to another New York neighborhood, always the result of a personal event or financial problems. Frances tries to find stability in a form of a permanent home of her own while also keeping her friendships alive, especially her one with her best friend Sophie.

Gerwig is disarming in a lively, authentic role and she is surrounded by a wealth of acting talent that maintains that authenticity. The film is alternately hilarious and moving, without ever feeling forced. The somewhat pretentious black-and-white photography is a minus, but this is a film that every young adult who has ever lived in that purgatory between college and adulthood will recognize and embrace.

Playful and bittersweet in Black & White Drama / Comedy film about muddling "millennials". The story was written by lead actress Greta Gerwig, who also directed the film together with Noah Baumbach.

27-year-old Frances (Greta Gerwig) is a modern New York dancer with the playfulness of a butterfly and the elegance of a ladder. She shares an apartment with her best friend Sophie (Mickey Sumner), as a lesbian couple who no longer have sex. But then Sophie moves to find her own way, after which Frances sees all corners of New York thanks to many moves.

A wonderful and atmospheric Drama / Comedy film, with good acting (including by Greta Gerwig, who has something cool and cheerful, but at the same time you see that she also continuously tries to give herself a certain attitude) and subtle humor. The fact that the film was made in Black / White in the current 3D time takes some getting used to.

"Frances Ha" is just a nice intimate portrait (feel good film) of a mid-twenties who wants to get her life back on track.

“It's after three, I can drink!”

Delicious. Frances Ha is an original and fresh coming of age film with razor-sharp dialogues, wonderful humor, an excellent combination of comedy and drama and a fine chemistry between the actors. The interplay between Gerwig and Mickey Sumner is especially great to watch, and Gerwig also has enough talent and charisma to carry these types of films.

Gerwig really gets away with the dialogues of Noah Baumbach (and written by herself). Frances is someone who doesn't know exactly what she wants and sees how everyone around her moves on with their lives and makes plans. She is not always sympathetic, but her problems are recognizable for everyone and Gerwig makes sure that you sympathize with this honest, insecure, neurotic, humorous and smart young woman.
