Café de Flore is a love story about soul mates, who mysteriously find each other, separated by distance and time. In the 1960s, Jacqueline lives in Paris with her disabled son. The divorced and successful DJ Antoine lives in present-day Montreal. What binds the two stories together is love - euphoric, obsessive, tragic, timeless - love.

Anyone who expected a story from A to Z from this "Café de Flore" will definitely be turned away, because Jean-Marc Vallée produces a film that works with very short scenes that ignore precision regarding time, locations and characters and yet he achieves a very beautiful whole with love and affection as a common basis between the storylines.
In Canada the film was praised, but also received with mixed feelings, and in France it was generally maligned - except for the performance of Vanessa Paradis - because of the complexity of the story.
It is not a simple film, but if you persevere a little, you can only appreciate the original and intelligent way of portraying very simple, universal feelings in people. The same themes can be messed up terribly and ultimately end up in melodrama and banality. Vallée did more with it. Thank goodness and...Vanessa Paradis is indeed sublime.

If Vanessa Paradis is on the film list, I can hardly help but... try the film. The BBC recently broadcast this film, a French film with English subtitles. I couldn't sit back and consume Café de Flore. Now, I'm not a fan of films in which some disability plays a prominent role, but the atmosphere and a certain mystery captured me in this drama; of course also due to the mesmerizing effect of Paradis; somewhat the female equivalent of William Dafoe.
Ultimately, the mystery of the apparent symmetry between the two storylines is completely left out, which I found extremely unfortunate. Should have left that open, Mr. Director. Nevertheless, this is a commendable film, in my opinion.
Oh yes, this version of Le Vent Nous Portera has just appeared on YouTube...

Beautiful atmospheric film about destiny, connection, soulmate, timelessness, processing.
Major themes that have been kept small and therefore appear powerful in my experience.
