Good film about a country priest who goes to the city to help his son who is in trouble. This early film about apartheid shows both the black and the white perspective. The location work in South Africa naturally benefits the authenticity. The few scenes between the two fathers are the best moments.

When I was in high school I read Alan Paton's book of the same name. I still have the book on my shelf, but I can't remember much of its contents, even after seeing this film adaptation. The story, set during the time when apartheid was enshrined in South Africa, is about the stark contrasts between the white and black communities and the people of goodwill who tried to bridge the gap. Viewed through the eyes of today, the film looks rather old-fashioned, the theme is actually still relevant.
