Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore plot

"A movie for everyone who has ever dreamed of a second chance."

Thought it was a much lesser Scorsese, actually it didn't work.

I didn't like the story, it just didn't interest me. The acting was also only subpar beyond that of Harvey Keitel and the little man. It's all so boring and standard, that doesn't make it any more interesting.

Every top director makes a bad film every now and then? Then this one is definitely Scorsese's bad.

1,5*

That unimaginable young puss naturally plays a crucial role in the life of Alice, a young woman, energetic but also so vulnerable.

Good movie, sure, but not a masterpiece by any means.

Those evergreens at the beginning of the film were a fitting and very good intro and one can only be satisfied with the actors, including those in a supporting role like Diane Ladd (Flo).

I disagree with previous comments that this is one of Scorsese's lesser films. I think this richly varied character study is one of his better, nay his best. It is a sometimes gripping, sometimes funny, sometimes frightening, but always empathetic story about a young widow, who, together with her son, tries with varying degrees of success to keep her head above water in the grueling everyday life.

Ellen Burstyn flawlessly fills the lead; one of the best performances of the 1970s, which was rightfully awarded an Oscar. The rest of the cast is also not indifferent: Alfred Lutter as the unruly son, Jody Foster as his precocious girlfriend, the passionate Harvey Keitel, the modest Kris Kristofferson and last but not least the hilarious Diane Ladd as Alice's coarse-mouthed colleague. . They are all in great shape. This superb acting plus the gripping story make this movie my favorite Martin Scorsese. A masterpiece is perhaps too much to say, but it comes close.
