Béla Tarr is the kind of director who makes a film like 2001: A Space Odyssey seem like a smooth blockbuster. That is the sore point for me. Maybe I'm too much of a kid these days, but beautiful images are interspersed with sleep-inducing shots in which you watch two men walking down the street for ten minutes, in which the shot is also chosen in such a way that there is really nothing to see. It will be the charm for some, but it's a bit too much 'slow cinema' for me.

In contrast, Tarr sets an intriguing opening scene and the whole film has an air of mystery, not least because of the quirky story. Yet film is above all an audiovisual medium and the many very beautiful shots cannot prevent it from being a tiring session as a whole. It's too contemplative for me. Perhaps a film like this will be more appropriate in 20 years or so.

Little accessible and even difficult to fathom film. I already kind of knew what to expect with Tarr, but you have to be in the mood, I think. Werckmeister harmonies is cinema based on experiences and feelings that cannot be translated into plots or clear story structures.

Cinematographic top and the way the scenes are canned and how the camera floats over the decor is beautiful. In terms of content, on the other hand, it takes a bit of searching for an explanation of what you see, or perhaps just don't see. Lengthy scenes, silent, but now and then underlined by a solid (yet sublime) soundtrack. Scenes of the walking Janos that turn out to be nothing...

And yet, chaos, as if humanity loses all reason every so often and lights the torches on emotion and leaves a trail of destruction in search of satisfaction and justice. Special, but apparently I can't get through with one viewing. However, this one goes in the closet again...

I can't get enough of these kinds of films, so many magical scenes in this film.. The opening, the moment the circus arrives in the city, the walks through the empty streets, peering at nothing and yet drawing full attention, a masterpiece by Bela Tarr.
