The film is about United Airlines Flight 93 on September 11, 2001, which was taken over by terrorists. The passengers learned through conversations on their cell phones that other planes had already flown into the towers of the WTC and that their plane was on its way to Washington DC The film shows how the passengers decided to rebel against the hijackers in a desperate attempt to prevent the plane from crashing.

Slightly exaggerated.
It seems people liked this one so much because of what it isn't. No, it has not become a bloated sentimental dragon, instead you get a relatively bare record of the events on and around flight U93.
Probably a brave choice by Greengrass, but in my opinion it didn't immediately make the film better. In the beginning it was still interesting, although it remains a bit strange that they have chosen the least interesting aircraft. About halfway through it becomes clear why. The occupants turn against the hijackers and foil an even bigger disaster , so that you as a viewer still get some heroism.
However, the scenes on the plane are disappointing. I didn't really see the realism in it, it sometimes felt a bit like a meager TV film adaptation. Camera work is also really lousy and the musical accompaniment doesn't add much either. The fact that this is a famous and tragic event adds just that little bit extra, but that's rather outside the quality of the film.
Thought it was a fairly resigned viewing experience, I had expected more empathy with this film. Bottom line I think Greengrass just isn't a great director. Hasn't been able to convince me once, this film also contains too much missed potential.

The film begins with a sketch of the ordinary day-to-day business of passengers, board and airport personnel. Pretty good, because there are hardly any private situations involved, but it takes a little too long.
Then comes the story of the dramatic event, with tension and chaos in crescendo. Occasionally a bit unclear, which on the other hand underlines the panic situations both in the air and on the ground.
No big names in the cast, but that might make it more natural and real and not draw attention to the stars.
The end brings some concrete, rather critical, information about the drama in the credits.

So! I was quite impressed by this. In that sense it's actually a bit of a TV-like film, edited quickly, lots of dialogue without, for example, explicitly showing the events of 9/11, images that we all know and this angle is quite well thought out. Let's face it, half the movie you're watching flight controllers endlessly talking into their headsets and staring at green dots on a screen. I mean, keep that exciting and there Greengrass succeeds very well. All those people who are working trying to comprehend what's going on, what's happening and where those planes are. The almost impossible frustration and powerlessness. And yet very well edited with tension, and then those smoking towers in the background and then very slowly that percolating realization. It won't..?
The hassle of the soldiers who pull their hair out of their heads because who has to decide who orders those aircraft to shoot down? The president? The vice president? By the way, both are not available.
Then the film moves to United 93 where the situation escalates. As far as I'm concerned, it's actually very modest and placed without exaggerated situations. This last part and ending takes less time, which makes sense to me because how long do you keep it interesting before it gets melodramatic?
Another thing that particularly intrigues me, the film lasts as long as the device takes off and crashes. Again a very nice aspect of the film.
