It will be your child.

The story has gone a bit crazy, and the hip-fast (ehh well that seemed like it twelve years ago) way of filming is a bit irritating here and there. Will be.

What I did find worthwhile was the few scenes that require acting. That's a good thing, Holly Hunter can do that, and so can Evan Rachel Wood. And nice to see Deborah Unger in a small role.

Not much new under the sun really.

A film about teenagers with a moralistic undertone, in which the dangers and especially the consequences of alcohol, drugs and bad friends come to the fore. From a modeling apprentice to a thieving drug addict. And this in a span of about four months. It goes very fast and I missed some nuance. The plot would be based on true events, but of course I can't put my finger on what is real and what is not real of course.

The film's biggest selling point is the authenticity of the acting of the two teenagers and the mother. The vulnerability of a broken detached family floats to the surface and is mainly used by mother Melanie to cover up her own failure. The bad girlfriend is so tough she is often just as vulnerable.

Thirteen is a film that once again revolves around being accepted, gaining recognition and pushing boundaries. That in itself is normal. What shocked me the most was the age at which this derailed and criminal behavior came along. This was a bit more than just puberty.
