The Man in the Sky plot
"Dare-devil test pilot takes you on a nerve-tingling adventure!"
Test pilot John Mitchell's efforts to improve the lives of his wife Mary and their two children seem doomed, and he blames himself for it. The Wolverhampton-based Conway Aero-Manufacturing Company asks Mitchell to participate in the testing of their new transport aircraft with a rocket propulsion system. He must take two key passengers on his test flight: Secretary of State Crabtree and a buyer's representative, Ashmore. Mitchell learns from his boss Reg Conway that if Ashmore is not interested in the plane, the company will run into financial trouble and he will be fired. The device is not even insured. However, at a high altitude, above the Irish Sea, an engine catches fire.
