Beautifully acted, drily humorous drama about the end of a lifelong friendship between two islanders, played by Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. Farrell in particular is very good as the somewhat wimpy, boring Pádraic who can't accept being put aside overnight. A small story and not much happens, but the sympathetic characters, interesting theme and beautiful atmospheric drawing make this a small gem.

In a real Irish island community, Colm [Brendan Gleeson] abruptly ends his friendship (and the associated visits to the local pub) with Pádraic [Colin Farrell], having come to the conclusion that Pádraic is just “boring”. However, Pádraic is not easily put aside, not even when Colm, a gifted musician, threatens to cut off one of his fingers if Pádraic even dares to speak to him. Filmed in beautiful locations that provide atmosphere with authenticity and well acted. Farrell was never that good (Gleeson was), but it's Condon that impresses the most as Pádraic's sister who can't stand the stubbornness of the two former friends. Well made, but pretty bizarre.

I sat in disbelief for nearly two hours watching the exploits of two old comrades who are suddenly at war with each other (is that a reference to the Irish Civil War?). A shocking story, brought to life with verve by Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. I was glad that Kerry Condon came into the picture every now and then, the only normal person in this bizarre film.

The acting is of course done to perfection and the images of the Irish countryside are also very beautiful. However, the whole thing is somewhat disappointing, because the story is too absurd in my opinion.
