The Secret Garden plot
Mary Lennox comes from a wealthy British family in India and is used to being served at her beck and call. When both parents die shortly after each other, she finds shelter with her uncle Archibald Craven. Upon arrival at the once beautiful Misselthwaite Manor, it turns out to be a desolate place. Archibald also struggles immensely with the loss of his wife, Mary's mother's twin sister, and isolates himself. Mary takes a lot of getting used to her new environment, but finds some distraction by befriending a roaming dog. It leads her to a mysterious garden where she can escape her desolate existence.
