Nickie, a self-destructive loner, mourns the disappearance of his younger brother. He has left behind a promising life in his native Great Britain and is processing his grief in alcohol and violence. On the fifth anniversary of his brother's disappearance, he meets Emily. It's love at first sight and the two are soon inseparable. They both have a great sadness.
