The third part in the 'Trois couleurs' trilogy. Valentine (Irène Jacob) is a student who earns her living as a fashion model. She meets a mysterious judge who watches and eavesdrops on his neighbors. Slowly the two people grow closer to each other.

I wanted to catch this one via Cinema Canvas, but didn't realize that this was actually a trilogy with also the parts "blanc" and "bleu". Valentine is a model and happens to meet a retired judge (I don't think I've heard a name anywhere). She feels a form of disgust for the man when she discovers that he is spying on and eavesdropping on his neighbors, but is hesitant to report this herself. Interesting to think about is the fact what you would do yourself. Is bringing the truth always the best solution and always necessary or is hiding something sometimes best for everyone? It is the beginning of a tantalizing friendship between the lonely man and Valentine.
As has already been described many times, the atmosphere, the use of color is sublime. Red does indeed appear in every scene, as reportedly in the other parts of the trilogy (blue and white). Also clever was the advertising panel with her photo projected perfectly with a photo taken of her as a survivor of the boat disaster. The shadows and the mysterious intriguing also come to the fore.
The film is nicely put together and in addition to the duo Valentine and the judge you also have the parallel with the judge and his neighbor Auguste. Love, friendship and communication are central, but it takes some effort from the viewer to discover the ambiguity or vagueness during the film. One to remember, beautiful!
