Silence plot

"Sometimes silence is the deadliest sound."

Two Jesuits, Sebastião Rodrigues and Francis Garupe, travel in the seventeenth century to Japan, which banned Catholicism and all other foreign contacts under the Tokugawa shogunate. There they witness the persecution of Japanese Christians by their own government seeking to purge Japan of any Western influence. Eventually the priests' paths part and Rodrigues travels to the countryside, where he wonders why God is silent while his children suffer.

How many times have I hoped that people put their foot on an imprint of Christ. She got rid of the problems, I like the movie - this one was really just unbearable and by far the worst (and only bad of) Scorsese.

Most importantly, I don't understand these people. What is so difficult about losing your faith in front of the stage and enjoying your life? Then this is performed by protagonist Garfield and he is just a mediocre actor who does not know how to convey that feeling to me as a viewer, although he tries to do so for 158 endless minutes. No, then Driver managed to impress in those few minutes that he was on screen, just like Qui-Gon Jinn who radiated a certain authority. From that moment on, the level also got a little better.

I also didn't know what the film was trying to say, Scorsese is a religious man, but this film seemed to me to be more anti-advertising for religion. Besides that, the ending was the most interesting and I would have liked the entire film, but that was rather rushed with a voice-over that is annoying in the whole film in which everything is explained, also by the actors by the way. Show, don't tell to use a cliché. In this way, this remains a distant film that I, as a viewer, never got along with.

But as a film, this is also just terribly boring, delivered at an excruciatingly slow pace. No music present (at least, not on the tape) and fairly dull camera work. You notice that the compositions have been thought through, but in a dull color filter and a lot of fog with little done with it, this just makes it visually very sparse. Every now and then a nice picture of wavy water, but that's it. 1.0*.

Excellent film in which two fathers travel to Japan to track down a missing father. This film about Christian persecution is set in 17th century Japan and looks beautiful. Although the story itself is a bit monotonous, the film itself is not. Some captivating dialogues and the moments between Andrew Garfield and Liam Neeson at the end make for strong scenes.

An excellent Scorsese that shows once again that it doesn't have to be American crime and mafia to bring a film with many cinematographic qualities.

A story that is difficult to put on the screen but, despite a good length, does not bore you, brings a lot of variety, brings us a little known aspect of Japanese history and material for consideration about the faith and how far a person can go to maintain this faith to keep.

Some strange scenes. Neat interpretations.
