Sophie (Françoise Arnoul) is a cute girl from France who lives in a palace in Venice. She is virtually held captive there by Eric von Bergen (OE Hasse), a wealthy ex-Nazi. Sophie falls in love with Michel Lafaurie (Christian Marquand), a sympathetic journalist. She really loves him, but fate drives them further and further apart.
