About the invisible wall that the Israeli policy of apartheid erects between different factions in the Palestinian resistance. The Israeli side erects humiliating physical barriers within which young men constantly encounter inequality and hopelessness. The Palestinian side has been splintered by nationalism, fundamentalism and violent resistance. Both sides' political choices make young people get lost in a labyrinth of mutual lies.

Director Hany Abu-Assad forces the viewer to empathize with a title hero who becomes entangled in a hornet's nest full of groups with different interests. First and foremost, it is a well-written thriller with an appealing protagonist and a solid plot with twists and turns. Highly entertaining for domestic and foreign audiences. Yet, because of its link with the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, it manages to be an urgent counter voice from a group that normally finds its way to the Western mass media with difficulty.

Omar gives a nice representation of how things could go in the Palestinian-occupied territories in Israel. Life in the region there is dominated by the high wall that pulls social life apart on both sides. Or you should be called Omar and regularly clamber over the wall at the risk of your own life. What a person will not give for love. There are not many options, by the way: either you endure the situation and await a life without hope or comfort. Either you try to do something (without the fact that I am condoning violent acts of resistance).

Omar also stands up for his homeland and after an act of resistance gets into trouble. Moral principles such as fidelity, betrayal, friendship, love, etc ... are strongly addressed in the film. The film has a simple and clear course. The film is easy to follow in its simplicity. The editing and camera handling is fine, especially with the chase scenes in the narrow streets and buildings with flat roofs. The film depicts life for Palestinians in occupied territory without making a real statement out of it. In addition, you have the love story with Nadia and the friendships with Tarek and Amjad. The film is and remains quite serene. I would have approached the ending a little differently, but the choice is quite surprising. Just not enough for a 4.0*, but nice to have seen! A big 3.5* in advance.
