Old Wakamatsu.

Show us here what he is capable of. He manages to make a fascinating film with little. Dips a bit every now and then, some scenes go on too long, but with a few seconds he always manages to attract attention.

It's all fairly experimental, especially the soundtrack. Visually typical Wakamatsu with a lot of grainy black and white and some color images towards the end. Very nice contrast by the way, makes for a nice ending. At 55 minutes it is not an overly long film, but there are a few tougher parts that occasionally slow down the pace.

Wakamatsu's later films are thematically stronger and more accurate, there is also technical room for improvement, but there are still a few magical, alienating scenes that continue to color his work. It's nice that there is still plenty to discover about the man.

Already the fourth Wakamatsu film that I have watched and this one is also impressive. Visually very beautiful, a bit gruesome at times, but I nevertheless thought the build-up of tension was excellent. In any case, the film kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. “Which nurse would have to believe,” I kept thinking. I thought the ending - in color - was brilliant, except for those sixties images of those police officers. The director should have left that out. Adds nothing to the film at all.
Of course the question remains; Why did that weirdo kill those women? The scene in which five naked ladies - those images obviously took place in the head of that frustrated man - loudly laughed at that weirdo says it all. It cannot be otherwise that that weirdo was extremely humiliated as a child by his mother or other women and therefore harbored enormous hatred towards women. This is my interpretation. The director leaves that question unanswered and I think that is very strong. Many a film ended in disappointment for me because everything had to be explained if necessary. Not happy here and in that respect Wakamatsu is way ahead of its time with this film, especially in terms of cinematography. The photo depicted on the poster says more than enough to me.

A relatively short film by Wakamatsu that almost tries to maintain the balance between poetic and voyeuristic about a disturbed frustrated man who storms into a nursing home and takes a number of nurses hostage. Shot in (grainy) black and white with a small section in color at the end, mainly of dead and naked female bodies soaked in blood. The contrast is suddenly great.

The sound(track) is hypnotically beautiful. For the rest, little musical support. Delivered in a rather cold and distant manner. The only sound you hear is the rain and the wind howling outside. No explanatory film about why, although a number of theories can be devised. It makes the film extra mysterious and therefore stronger.

His later Yuke Yuke Nidome no Shojo (Film, 1969) was also intriguing, but stronger in terms of content. Quite violent, although not explicitly depicted, this Violated Angels is quite an intense experience.
