Ochazuke no Aji plot
Taeko and her husband Mokichi's marriage is not a bed of roses. He is a somewhat dull manager and she is much wiser and treats him disrespectfully. She even nearly has an affair, but a traumatic event changes her mind about her husband.

Solid Ozu that can't compete with Tokyo story, but is still worth seeing. A film with a lot of dialogues and that is not always interesting to follow. Especially the beginning I found rather long-winded. Fortunately the theme is interesting and was sufficiently elaborated.
A film about arranged marriages and feminism. Taeko and Mokichi have been married for years, but there is not much love left in the marriage. Even quarrels are no longer there. Everything is resigned and indifferent. She even talks about him as a silly person to her friends. Respect is hard to find here.
They also have a marriage candidate in mind for the niece who is staying with them. Only she is free-spirited and wants to choose her own husband. It is mainly the uncle who gradually realizes that his own marriage is based on wrong customs. The film is somewhat gloomy and gives an excellent picture of Japan after the Second World War.
