Quite a nice film this....acting is not that bad and gives a nice picture of the 90s.(nice time )

The story is still special, but the above mentioned is so nice to see that he looks away and is sometimes a feast of recognition.

I remember it being advertised at the local video store. Fascinating title for the 11-year-old boy I was then.

Unfortunately, the makers can't do much more with the wafer-thin premise of an apocalyptic evening of partying than present an hour and a half long advertising campaign for the important music trends of the time. Distasteful rotten music while enjoying hyperactive editing, ugly filters and a drunk cameraman. And yet it does have something. Perhaps because, among others, Thom Hoffman and Hugo Metsers are so unabashedly clamoring about it that it automatically becomes funny.

This movie came out when I started high school, and the gabber culture temporarily turned my outfit and music taste upside down. This movie seemed great to me at the time, and I still think the Flamman and Abraxas soundtrack is the best hardcore record. After that I converted quite quickly to the world of rock 'n roll, so I don't know much about it.

And the movie… well, it has its charm. Amsterdam is portrayed as a wildly dangerous city, where DJs are king for all young hip people, who go wild on beats and pills. Being young and partying yourself to pieces is the motto, as in the old Live fast and die young. It is remarkable how often the word 'grandpa' is used as a term of abuse. The realization that we will all grow older has apparently not yet reached these people. Very nice images of those parties, complete with blurry music fragments, and hallucinatory images. I thought the frenzy of the party was very well portrayed.

The story next to it, in which we see the downside of this life, is a lot less. Drug dealers, broken relationships, girlfriends cheating on each other for money and career....it will be all right. I couldn't really sympathize with anyone, which is due to the poor acting. Even Tygo was a bit of a disappointment to me here, while I normally really appreciate him. Perhaps the ramshackle script is to blame, in which characters sometimes show up for a single scene, and then we don't see them again. The gangster characters were so over the top that I burst out laughing on a regular basis. In particular, the dealer, who always starts talking in coal-English English, makes a lot of sense.

This film is nevertheless still nice to have seen: it gives a nice picture of the time, and just like in the much better Trainspotting, the film is a nice time document of a culture that temporarily dominated the world view of Dutch young people.
