Living with Chucky plot

"It Isn't Child's Play."

In the 1980s, filmmaker Kyra Elise Gardner grew up with the doll Chucky. Her father brought the iconic and murderous toys to life for the horror film 'Child's Play' in 1988. In this documentary, she finally meets the other families involved in the franchise. Interviews with creator Don Mancini and actors such as Brad Dourif and Jennifer Tilly go behind the scenes to reveal how the films were made and discuss the cultural ramifications of the series over the years.

A look back at the Chucky franchise that started in 1988 with Child's Play and continued in 2021 with the television series Chucky. Kyra Elise Gardner is the daughter of puppeteer Tony Gardner, who has been involved with the franchise since 2004. Creator Don Mancini, original producer David Kirschner, actors and crew members talk about their experiences on set and what their role in the franchise still means to them. Major absentee is Justin Whalin, the lead actor in Child's Play 3 who - possibly due to the controversy surrounding a murder case - is quickly dismissed, but it is nice for fans to see so many familiar faces. Filmed as a series of static interviews, often with a menacing-looking Chucky doll nearby, this is a conventional documentary for fans covering all seven films. The most remarkable (in a positive sense) is the epilogue, in which Gardner mirrors her own experience as a child who (literally) grew up in a Chucky family with that of, for example, Brad Dourif's daughter Fiona, who played the leading role in the (certainly recommended ) final two films in the franchise.
