Darwin's Nightmare plot

A few decades ago, the Nile perch was released as a scientific experiment in Lake Victoria in the heart of Africa. This predatory fish proved to be such a powerful survivor that in no time at all, almost all other extant fish species in the giant lake became extinct. The sober recording images of the fishing town of Mwanza in Tanzania show a degrading situation. While hundreds of tons of Nile perch fillets are flown daily by cargo planes to Europe and Japan, the starving locals have to cook a scant meal from the fish waste. Meanwhile, loads of weaponry are flown into the continent on the outward journey; the bloody African wars turn out to be a lucrative business for many.

revealing.

Something that befits a good documentary. Well I have to admit that I also knew very little about this fact. Because even though you suspect this kind of shit is happening, it's still shocking. The low point was the criminal whore runners who turned out to be pilots. What a misery.

As far as I'm concerned, mandatory food for all first graders. So that we can make it a better world. Perhaps against better judgment, who knows what will come of it.

Kudos to the creators.

Very good.

Darwin's nightmare is a documentary about a problem about which I already knew the essence, but about which I would like to learn more.

Unfortunately, my thirst for knowledge was not quenched enough because it was less about biological/environmental issues and especially about the exploitation of cheap labor and the north-south contradiction.

As unfortunate as it is, that is not something specific to this industry, but also occurs in the clothing and toy industry in Asia and everywhere in less developed areas where people are only used as worker ants for the monetary gain of the already wealthy Westerners. . The week before I had already seen a report about rose cultivation in Kenya and the harrowing stories that people tell are very similar, despite the difference in sector.

The general consequence that such films have for me is that I think more and more about the origin of the products I buy and the impact on the environment that certain decisions can have.

Unlike others above I would have preferred a voice over and experts hence my slightly lesser rating.

The documentary does show that there is a lot of hunger and poverty, but it fails to explain why, it just insinuates, and can't prove anything. I still wonder why those people don't just try to catch some fish themselves. As said before, the importance of AIDS in this documentary has escaped me, although they have dwelt on it for a long time.

Concerning the weapons, the documentary also misses the point completely, a pilot says that he once transported tanks, but that was to another African country and we do not know who the tanks were intended for, so very vaguely, but now we have to we suppose that the capitalists are playing war in Africa. The fact that exactly 1 journalist has been interviewed who has written something about it doesn't really convince me either.
