A look back at the Chucky franchise that started in 1987 with Child's Play and reinvented itself in a remarkable way after two typical sequels. Almost all the main actors in front of and behind the scenes have their say and, despite their enthusiasm, are honest about the varying quality of the films. Most notable is the cooperation of Tom Holland, the director of the first film in the franchise who clashed considerably with creator Don Mancini and producer David Kirschner. Other plus points are the technological developments with which Chucky was brought to life, the attention to post-production and the cultural significance of the franchise, especially within the LGBTQ+ community. A minus is the chaotic editing by Roy E. Peterson who apparently wanted to use every transition in Windows Movie Maker.
