Whether this is all true, I cannot judge. I didn't study for that.

What I have seen with my own eyes is that glaciers are shrinking rapidly. In 1991 I visited the Columbia Icefield in the Canadian Rocky Mountains (halfway between Jasper and Banff) for the first time. Sixteen years later, in 2007, I passed it again and was shocked by how much smaller the glacier had become in the meantime.

In view of the reactions to Al Gore's documentary, I get the impression that many people prefer to bury their heads in the sand or - even worse - deny firmly that the earth is going in the wrong direction. Laziness? stupidity? Own sake? I don't know, but I'm convinced that future generations will not thank us for that attitude.

Fine.

In the meantime, we are already 12 years later, which makes this documentary something different. The message brought here has been repeated so many times that the impact has become a lot smaller. That doesn't make it any less true or important, but in the meantime there are better sources to be found than this film.

Al Gore himself often comes too much to the fore. I have nothing against the fact that he is the face of this documentary, because you don't convince people with scientists (something that science really needs to spend a little more time on), but there are a bit too many moments where Gore just that makes it a little too personal.

Time that would have been better spent on a little more depth in terms of the numbers and graphs. Or the spicing up of the presentation, because now you're watching a seminar just a little too much. On the other hand, the dry approach isn't that bad either, especially when systematically ruthlessly undermines the well-known skeptical criticisms.

But luckily we don't have to worry anymore, Trump now acknowledges climate change, but says it will turn around again. So don't worry.

2.5*
