Impressive, often emotionally gripping documentary about the incredible rescue operation of the youthful football team and their coach who became trapped in a flooded cave system in Northern Thailand in 2018. Through a combination of reconstructions and archive recordings, the makers have constructed a nail-biter of a thriller, with a lot of attention for the stories of the divers involved. As with their previous top-notch documentaries Meru and Free Solo, directors Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin have a keen eye for just the right mix of visual spectacle and human emotion.

Good documentary about the rescue operation of twelve boys and their companion from a flooded cave. The immense and virtually impossible operation is discussed in detail here. The images are therefore impressive. Still, it doesn't want to get really exciting, perhaps because of the somewhat one-sided approach (from the cave divers) and the rather safe design of the documentary itself.

Interesting documentary with realistically staged images, reenacted by the actual divers who helped with the rescue at the time. The claustrophobic aspect and the danger of those underwater corridors are very tangible and it is all easy to follow with 3D animations where what is located.

Combined with the authentic images from outside the cave and the interviews with those involved, it gives a good insight into the complexity of the operation and what a difficult task awaited the rescue team.

It may be called a small miracle how the boys (and their coach) were all rescued and that everything turned out so (relatively) well, despite 1 victim of the Thai Navy. It is also touching to see how grateful everyone is and the divers are all honored and given the praise they deserve.

4*
