1974, une Partie de Campagne plot
Valéry Giscard d'Estaing commissioned Raymond Depardon in 1974 to make a film about the presidential campaign he was going to conduct that year, with François Mitterrand as the main opponent. Inspired by Richard Leacock's Primary (1960) on John F. Kennedy's presidential campaign, Depardon follows events in Direct Cinema style, getting close to his subject, during public and private meetings. He is everywhere: in the helicopter, in the office with the campaign team – and with his protagonist when he is “alone” awaiting the results of the elections.
