Miami Vice plot
"No Law. No Rules. No Order."
Miami Vice detectives Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs are tasked with going undercover to solve three related murders. To do this, they must pose as drug transporters, piloting shipments into South Florida. Sonny also has an affair with Isabella, the wife of one of the drug dealers.

Without a doubt one of the coolest movies ever made, which really blows my mind at the low rating here. Maybe because of the series (which I've never seen)? Also a great non-blockbuster action movie in the footsteps of Heat. The latter has a much stronger drama aspect, but Miami Vice has a thumbs-and-finger design. Uber dynamic and with a lot of variety, Michael Mann sits on top of his character. The shoot out, wow. Or that frontal aerial shot of the first speedboat, it doesn't get any cooler. Mann effortlessly switches from very dark tones to bright daylight, from close-ups to helicopter shots. (Also fly over the Iguazu waterfall!) Furthermore, an attempt is made to explore the close relationship between police and criminals. The scene in which Ricardo and Sonny talk about the reconciliation of their identities reminded me somewhat of the conversation between De Niro and Al Pacino. However, this element remains somewhat superficial here. Finally, a striking choice to cast Wim Helsen as the great villain!

Revise again and go up the score anyway. The whole atmosphere and settings in combination with the camera work and the soundtrack remain fantastic. It seems that the film gets better with each viewing, or is it? The biggest flaw remains Farrell. It's not my favorite already, but with the wrong mustache and Maaskantje haircut, he's not worthy of Sonny at all. 3.5–>4.0

I never knew how to rate this movie. Once found a terribly boring film, but in the meantime completely remade. The atmosphere is like a sultry summer evening with a depressed atmosphere. The tension is in the air with wonderful colors on the darkening background. I've never seen the series, so don't make the comparison. And maybe better this way.
Farrell and Fox are not bad, although their characters never really come into their own. It is above all the matter that is central. No one would be mad if one of them hadn't been there in a sequel. In any case, the film does not want to be too good and also goes fast. Miami Vice is mainly visually a good action film, but it lacks the necessary charisma to fully enjoy it.
