The first hour was not really interesting, especially the spiritual scenes I found long-winded, then the film started running and I became curious about the course. It is never really exciting, a sweet villain film.

“Isn't it touching how a perfect murder has kept our friendship alive all these years.”

One of Hitchcock's last films. And the old master shows that he hasn't forgotten it yet. The beginning of Family Plot is a bit muddled, and introducing both couples takes a bit of time. But Harris, Dern, Devane and Black are on a roll, and after the storylines come together there's more focus and especially more tension. In the final section, everything that makes Hitchcock so fascinating as a director comes together. Tension, humor, crime and of course Hitchcock's signature twist/MacGuffin.

Hitchcock's last film. A drama film with humorous elements. Certainly not his best film, but as usual he easily maintains the tension throughout the film. In addition, there are all kinds of funny and beautiful details to admire, such as (sexual) puns, a silhouette of Hitchcock (late in the film) and references to earlier films (eg Bates street). The camera work is also good as usual. A young Bruce Dern plays a strong role (played more often under Hitchcock and after a long career also in 3 Tarantino's). Karen Black and William Decane (reminded me a bit of Jack Nicholson) also play very well.
