Happy Gilmore plot

"He doesn't play golf... he destroys it."

Happy Gilmore has a dream to become an ice hockey player. The big problem, however, is that he can't skate, and field hockey is too soft for him. Then it turns out that his grandmother has not paid taxes and her house is taken away. Happy promises to collect the money to buy the house back. When he gets on a golf club he realizes that he can use his hard blows in this sport too, even though he is clearly not the person to get into an expensive club. Together with coach Chubbs Peterson, he now tries to earn money for his grandmother, but champion Shooter McGavin stands in his way.

Revisited after a long time. 4* remains unchanged because it remains an entertaining comedy that will make you cringe with laughter. Adam Sandler also plays strong and is cut out for the role of Happy Gilmore. Timeless classic.

Nice.

Typical material that Sandler seems to fit in perfectly. Didn't read too much into the film, but I wouldn't be surprised if this part was written specifically for Sandler. It is therefore not surprising that the film comes from the hand of Dugan, who has worked with Sandler before.

Now Sandler remains a hit-or-miss actor for me. I honestly prefer to see him in more serious, heavier roles that bring out his dramatic side, but sometimes I also appreciate his comedic effort. Happy Gilmore is an example of this. Very present performance, but never boring and sometimes even funny. Sandler's tantrums are certainly not soon forgotten.

Furthermore, the shots of the golf ball flying far through the air stand out, and the sometimes extremely creative ways to set up a simple golf match can also be called fun. There's not much more to the film, and that didn't seem to be Dugan's intention either. Very simple comedy film without too much nonsense that mainly sticks to the core.

I did, however, find it a pity that the film sometimes tends to get away from the core, and those are the moments when things go wrong. There are some side stories in this film that are far from interesting and are also very poorly developed. Dugan sometimes fills in the drawing in the field of romance, for example, so precisely that it immediately collapses like a film.

But Happy Gilmore remains comical entertainment and it does what it's supposed to do. It was easy to look at, though it takes another way to really make me laugh. This kind of stupid practice might be in a good mood, but I don't think Sandler is great at comedy. He clearly belongs here, but it wasn't hilarious at all.
