Eighteen years after their Star Trek-esque series was canceled after a few episodes, the series' actors are still attending trade shows and conventions. They are kidnapped by aliens who think the actors are real space heroes and ask them to help with their war against the evil General Sarris.

Delicious. Whether or not it's fun enough for those unfamiliar with the somewhat insane cult surrounding Star Trek, including its less-than-loving features, is hard to judge, but as Space Balls has pared down Star Wars like no other, this is the one. ultimate Trek spoof, without pissing off the fans, Galaxy Quest is just too likable for that, with a clear, warm Dreamworks sauce over it, but that's okay. The crew of the old Star Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation were probably very pleased with the film for that reason. It is an ode, not only to SF, but also to the fans, with a big wink.
The cast is a blast, Tim Allen (who actually plays an adult Buzz Lightyear) does a great job, Weaver, who is only allowed to repeat what the computer says, is blissfully busty and blond and Daryl Mitchell has a great comedic facial expression. The special effects are all right and there are also inventive action scenes. The smaller roles such as that of a still young Sam Rockwell and clever fanboy Justin Long, who later got to play ubernerd in Die Hard 4, are also perfectly fine. Furthermore, the tempo is very good, perfect editing and a nice classic soundtrack. The shots from the old TV series are hilarious too, so you see Allen quickly doing his hair right in the leader of Galaxy Quest and intentionally bad acting.

Historic documents.
Maybe not completely perfect in every way, but the result is still very funny and entertaining. The leading roles of the irritating Tim Allen, the brave and, apart from the visual, somewhat redundant Weaver and the bored Rickman - still quite nicely found and executed. And the script also delivers a whole series of memorable quotes. And not just about the Beryllium Sphere. Also nice how the story largely follows the structure of the great example, even apart from all the other winks.
I had never heard of the director. He appears to have been largely involved in the television series. Perhaps that partly explains the somewhat shaky production values of this film.

Good film about the cast of a once popular sci-fi TV series who now only sign autographs to fans. A fun and also original fact that is also well developed here with enough funny moments. The sets and costumes are spot on. Nice meta and the cast must have had a lot of fun with this. Easily 3.5 stars.
