"It’s never too late to try something new"
A retired school teacher, the widowed Nancy Stokes longs for adventure in her life. But more than that, she wants sex and contact with someone. To ensure really good sex, she contacts the escort Leo Grande. They meet, sleep together and have conversations. The two seem to get along well and Nancy regains confidence. They decide to see each other more often.

Three years after the death of her husband, a 55-year-old woman [Emma Thompson] makes the decision to hire an escort because she wants to feel young again and get her sex life going. So she rents a motel room and a young escort [Daryl McCormack]. In three appointments, the mutual understanding between escort and client develops in a film that is very reminiscent of Theo van Gogh's 06 (1994), but without the sharp (and really profound) edges. Written by comedian Katy Brand who also served as executive producer. Starts well, ends disappointingly superficial.

Quite a sweet and cute movie about an elderly lady who uses the professional services of a young man to make up for her lack. You expect a strong role from Emma Thompson, of course, and that also comes out a bit, although the film does not immediately impress with that. Perhaps because Daryl McCormack is not inferior to her, and that is quite an achievement.
Apart from that, it is a bit of a static event, with a lot of talking and just a little little content. The scene with the coffee and Becky is an example of what the film lacks just a little too much - interaction outside of the strict subject. It might have been a much more enjoyable movie if there had been a little more of that kind of distraction, just a little more, and just as elegantly woven into the subject. And preferably also at a different location, to make the whole feel a little less dramatic.

Courageous film by Emma Thompson, who, as an older woman, literally and figuratively exposes herself to the viewer. Great acting performance from Daryl McCormack. But with that you have had the pluses as far as I'm concerned. It's not so much about sex, of course, but more about an encounter between two people who are somewhat battered in life. Couldn't really fascinate me: too static, too many dialogues, too little real drama. too little tension. So you can already see the outcome coming. What struck me was that too many developments in this 'relationship', especially towards the end, are kept out of the viewer's eye. They suddenly appear to have had a great sex relationship, but it didn't look like it at first. What happened?
