Bit corny.

The whole reality TV show happening is portrayed a bit too emphatically as the cultural demise, even to roles of eg Michael Moore who have to declare it explicitly in lame one-liners. That kind of nonsense would have been better left out of the film, Howard just wasn't made for that.

Other than that, it's still a pretty entertaining movie. Not a big event, Howard is also a somewhat flat director of course, but otherwise everyone plays with enough sense. Harrelson is especially funny, too bad that after a while he disappears from the film.

Two hours is also a bit on the long side, could have been fifteen minutes shorter. Furthermore, it could have been a little less preachy, but once you manage to look past that, it's not a boring film. Unfortunately that is a requirement.

Edtv

Nice. Edtv isn't an in-depth masterpiece about the dangers of privacy violations and Big Brother-esque scenes, but as a light-hearted comedy with fine acting by McConaughey, Harrelson, DeGeneres, Reiner and Elfman, it certainly does the job. Just when you think it's getting a bit repetitive and long-winded, director Ron Howard comes up with a strong final part. George Orwell wouldn't be spanked by this movie, but I think he could laugh at this kind of unpretentious entertainment.
