"Saving the world takes a little Hart and a big Johnson."

Calvin Joyner was the most popular student in high school, but twenty years later he is an accountant and disappointed in his life. When the reunion of his school is approaching, he suddenly receives a message from one Bob Stone. That turns out to be Robbie Wheirdicht, a fat boy who was bullied a lot as a teenager. He is now a CIA agent. The unpredictable Bob drags his former classmate into a world of shootings, betrayal and espionage. When the good accountant realizes what a dangerous situation he has ended up in, there is no turning back.

Rock bottom

It seems that Dwayne Johnson has hit rock bottom with his role as Bob Stone. I haven't seen Baywatch, and I don't think I will see it, especially if this comedy is an indication of what I can expect from it.

Central Intelligence is a big disappointment from start to finish. It's not the chemistry of Johnson and Hart that they also had in Jumanji, but the crappy script and the enormous lack of humor. There were a few moments that brought a smile to my face, but 90% of the time it was like thunder.

Although the two protagonists go through enough development, and the whole idea of Stone being bullied and now turned into an action hero sounded more than nice, the further development of the story was anything but. This was a big disaster and a huge cliché that you've seen endlessly more often (and many times better!). Aaron Paul as a failed mobster was the icing on the rotten cake and the sugary, bland American ending provided the ultimate death blow to this far from entertaining comedy.

Where the rating on IMDB comes from is a mystery to me. Central Intelligence is like a bad family movie that is broadcast on a Saturday night, where as a child you can stay up "until late" with a bowl of chips on your lap and fall asleep nodding. And Mom and Dad are happy to turn off the movie.

1,5*

Meh.

Another never-ending comedy, with a story that sucks and the actors don't seem to know what to do - at least I can't imagine any of them being remotely proud of this one movie. The only moment I felt a faint smile was at the superfluous jokes in the making-of that is pasted on the back like Treppenwitz - another dead giveaway from a failed film.

Too bad I saw it on Netflix, in the cinema I went to ask for my money back.
