revised.

Was a bit more disappointing than I had hoped, but in 2018 I looked less strict at films. Now that I've started watching films a bit more seriously, the rating has dropped slightly, but the setup is still nice and this is also the only really great Dutch zombie film I know.

The comedy is not for everyone and that should become clear after only watching the trailer for 2 minutes. A bit of a muddled comedy with quickly spoken dialogues by actors who know very well what they are doing and who seem to show a lot of effort. It's just the images themselves that are often funnier than the cast.

Zombibi is fairly decorated, but I read somewhere that filming only took 18 days to film. If that is really the case, then it is also regularly noticeable. Some outdoor sets are decorated a bit hastily by, for example, just throwing a pile of clothes over the streets. The larger sets are a lot better.

Zombie violence has the most comedic moments but it doesn't really give a kick or anything like that. The editing is also a bit tame and the camera work is not exactly on-point. If it doesn't want to be really exciting or funny, you get a bit stuck as a film. There isn't a really good balance between horror and comedy either.

It is that the film is quite large for a Dutch film and that it is one of the few of its kind, but otherwise it does not have too much to offer. I miss some effort like practical effects and strong directing. Now it is mainly a fun project, but then you can also expect bad reviews.

As long as Jan is there, there is hope.

More than a fun comedy in the middle of a zombie outbreak in the heart of Amsterdam that can be compared to the concept of Shaun Of The Dead, but not of that level. Zombibi is by no means annoying.

The movie still gets off to a pretty bland start with plenty of stereotyping and bustling stuff, but when the shit kicks in, the zombies come like a torrent and the group's leader involves the kick ass and delicious cop Kim, the movie has the main core why it runs has been found. Like any zombie movie, it's all about action, resourceful weapons, group dynamics and nasty or creative kills. Not to mention stupid choices that lead to awkward situations. And there are quite a few.

Bad points? Meh...not so much if you don't take it too seriously. Mimoun Ouled Radi is indeed bloody irritating, Hasselbaink and Arnhem are sometimes not far from that level but also provide the necessary humor with their wickedness. But that is also the most that has been said about the bad points in this film. Is it otherwise original? Probably not but wtf, what else?

Gaier is excellent as a sober leading man, the view with Ravelli and Poeschmann is even excellent, the Bozhard imitation of De Hoop is of course humor, his small roles by Peters, Boot, Romeijn, Van Deursen and Brunner, but also Bonjasky and Saunders seemed very nice and in the end with the explosion everything looks fine. I can only say that I had a great time and laughed enough. Yummy!

Aziz [Yahya Gaier] is a good employee who licks the heels of his arrogant boss [Kees Boot] in hopes of promotion, but loses his job because his brother Mo [Mimoun Ouled Radi] constantly calls him at the office. Yet the brothers are especially dependent on each other when Amsterdam is overrun by an alien invasion that turns everyone into zombies. Together with Mo's friends Jeffrey [Seregio Hassenbaink] and Nolah [Uriah Arnhem] they manage to survive in this hopelessly amateurish and quite sexist zombie comedy in all respects, with Gigi Ravelli as the agent who joins the group. Carlo Boszhard does a creditable imitation of Jan de Hoop, but you get tired of him after a few minutes.
