Nice movie from Reiner.

I'm usually not a big fan of his work, especially not the older 80s, but this film was not that bad. I thought it was not that bad in terms of dating, apart from the clothing and relative good-naturedness.

In terms of type of film, it is close to Woody Allen, only the type of character is completely different. No highbrow, art-loving gibberish who drown in the lazy life, just simpler people. I can tolerate both, by the way, but liking one is by no means a guarantee that you'll like the other.

Crystal and Ryan play well, there are quite a few funny conversations and whoever likes Sinatra will hear half of his repertoire. At least, the songs themselves, because most of them are sung by someone else.

It's not really very touching either and towards the end it all falls into place very easily, but much better than I expected.

“You know, you may be the first attractive woman I've not wanted to sleep with in my entire life.”

“That's wonderful, Harry.”

The ultimate romantic comedy. When Harry Met Sally is the textbook example of how to make a strong rom-com and when you watch the film you see how many things later romantic comedies have taken over from this film. These kinds of films depend on the casting of the two lead actors and When Harry Met Sally has hit a home run with Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan.

Crystal is dryly comical and his philosophy about men and women who can never be friendly with each other will continue to be food for interesting discussions in 2016. Ryan is also nice as the naive and somewhat neurotic Sally. Those eyes, that face, that hair… Beautiful actress. The film distinguishes itself from other romantic comedies with the witty and funny dialogues and the sparkling chemistry of Crystal and Ryan. There's a certain venom in the dialogues that doesn't make it too sweet and I could listen to these two lovebirds for hours because their conversations never get boring. The fake orgasm scene is of course great (but certainly not the only unforgettable scene) and an example of the original way in which director Rob Reiner went to work. When Harry Met Sally is a movie I watched with a big smile and will continue to enjoy watching it in the future. Those touching oldies in between are the icing on the cake.

Quite a fine Woody Allen-esque relationship comedy. I thought it was going to be a boring talk movie with no direction but it turned out to be a nice well structured movie. About friendship, love, sex, and the gray zones in between. Love between two people remains something that no laws of nature have a grip on; some immediately know who their soul mate is and get married on short notice (Jess and Marie). Others, like Harry and Sally, take more than a decade to realize they fit together despite seemingly irreconcilable differences. Sally's "I hate you" at the end illustrates this perfectly.

The film talks about the foundations of a strong relationship: listening ear (the telephone sessions between Harry and Sally), staying true to themselves, accepting each other's less beautiful sides, etc.

Sex is often depicted here as a monster that can ruin friendships and relationships. As Frank Vanderlinden of De Mens sings: Sex changes everything. And that's also true when both actually go to bed. In fact, I think this view is outdated. After thirty years, sex is no longer a monster that can destroy things, but in today's culture it is much more the barometer of a good or bad relationship and an expression of enjoyment of life. The movie is also known a bit inaccurately for one scene in which Meg Ryan fakes an orgasm in a restaurant . It stands out of course, but there is also so much more. As a viewer, I was hoping that Harry and Sally would eventually find each other and that's why this rom-com has certainly succeeded. Recommended that Uncle Woody must have been jealous of.
